“Yoni” (pronounced yo-nee) is a Sanskrit word for the female genitalia that means “sacred space.” Its symbol has been worshiped in Eastern cultures since ancient times for bestowing life, creativity and love. We will be using the term “yoni” to bring appreciation and acknowledgment to the creative power this magical part of the female body holds.
It is estimated that women have been practicing with stone eggs for over 5,000 years. Empresses and concubines of the Royal Palace of China used eggs carved out of jade to access sexual power, awaken sensuality and maintain amazing health into their old age. Up until recently, this ancient, secret practice was only available to members of the royal family, and to select Taoist practitioners.
Placing the egg in the vaginal canal causes the stone to rest on the pelvic floor muscles. The added weight tones the vagina, along with:
Because the egg rubs the vaginal walls, it also rubs the reflexology points that lay along its interior. Then the egg caresses onto these powerful reflexology points, it absorbs any imbalances in the body while simultaneously rejuvenating the organs that connect to that region. This empowers the strength and health of not only the vagina, but the entire body.
Laying your foundation: In order to be receptive to the energy from any crystal we must have the capacity to receive it! Fortify your pelvic floor with a heavy stone such as Jade (the heaviest of Yoni Eggs). Strength is essential for all Yoni Egg beginners, although it may not be primary for you. When we have strong muscles we have more innervation in our vaginal muscles, more stimulated nerve endings (which receive the energetic sensations), more capacity to move our muscles, and thus more promotion of sensual feelings in our Yoni. Also, pick out a medium or large, as the smaller Yoni Eggs are best for coordination practice after we have built a strong pelvic floor foundation.
Will I lose my Yoni Egg inside of me?
No. The vaginal canal is a closed environment. It cannot travel beyond your back wall. Beginner eggs have holes drilled in them to accommodate a string. Unwaxed dental floss or hemp strings can be attached to the egg allowed for easy retrieval and no fear of removal.
What size do these eggs come in?
Yoni eggs are typically sold in small, medium and large sizes. The average person would use a medium size egg, as a small egg may be too small to feel within the vagina and one must feel the weight in order to contract the muscles to keep it in place. Small eggs are generally for experienced practitioners, while large yoni eggs are good for women who have had children.
But I am not “loose,” do I still need a Yoni Egg?
Yoni eggs are not only for women suffering from vaginal looseness. The vast majority of women with a vagina can benefit from a Yoni Egg practice. Much like clean eating, yoga and exercise – the process of Vaginal toning is a PRACTICE not aPROJECT. This means that ongoing awareness and exercise can serve women at every phase of our lives. From our youth – helping us understand and connect with our Yoni to our elder years- helping prevent vaginal atrophy, dryness and prolapse. Doing Yoni egg exercises helps you to isolate your vaginal muscles, increases blood flow and stirs up the libido. All of that is just the beginning!
There are many energetic and spiritual benefits to a woman connecting deeply with this most sacred part of her anatomy. Many women feels a sense of shame and disconnect when it comes to their Yoni. Some Yonis hold trauma from previous sexual experiences, negative child birth experiences, and reproductive health issues (such as fibroids, painful periods and the like). As you work with the various types of eggs in a conscious and delicious way – you begin to heal these things – pleasurably.
Which stone should I choose?
There are several different types of stones that you can use depending on their properties and what results you want to bring to the vagina. Each stone will bring different healing properties to the reproductive organs. Amethyst, rose quartz, aventurine, jade and serpentine are great stones to use, with jade and rose quartz being the best for beginners. The key in choosing the right one for you is being aware of the properties of the stones and their healing abilities.
I have just purchased an egg, now what?
After thoroughly cleansing the egg before each use, it is helpful to do kegal exercises in conjunction. These practices will intensify a woman's orgasmic threshold. The uterus begins contracting during the kegal exercises, in a similar manner to orgasm. Orgasm promotes increased blood circulation (which promotes a healthy libido) and the immune boosting hormones that rejuvenate the body.
The egg is not recommended to use during pregnancy or period cycles. However over time, the egg will soothe cramps and lighten cycles.
There are many practices you can do with your egg depending on WHY you’re using it. Many women purchase yoni eggs solely for sexual reasons, meaning they desire to tone and connect with their Yoni on the physical level only. This is a valid practice – however I’d like to invite you to open to the more hidden areas of Yoni Egg magic.
This is in the realm of healing. Many women have issues around abandonment, rejection, disconnection from their essence and their femininity as well as not being grounded and anchored in the body. Much of our trauma, pain and negative past experiences is held in our hips and pelvic bowl – specifically our womb space and Yoni. When we begin to work with Yoni eggs we are able to begin to clear out some of this energy making way for positive, pristine and connective enjoyment of both our sexuality and our lives.
How do I begin exercising with the Yoni Egg, do Kegals?
After emptying your bladder, cleansing your egg, and meditating with and filling it with your healing intentions, insert the egg with the larger end first
Squeeze your muscles and feel for your Yoni Egg, Hold your egg for a count of seven as you breathe in, and release as you breathe out, repeat 7x's each day. As you continue this practice you may practice pulling your egg up higher as you squeeze and breathe in, and then pressing it downward to the vaginal opening on the out breath.
I heard about “charging” the Yoni Egg. How do I do that?
Charging the jade egg with desired prayers and intentions has been a ritualized mediation for many women before they begin their jade egg journey. Yoni breathing into the egg once it is inside the womb releases the desired intentions throughout out the body with energy of love and balance. These meditations are helpful for establishing a deeper connection to the egg and our womb. Also putting your egg in sunlight to receive the rays is beneficial.
How do I clean the egg after I use it?
Do not use soap on the yoni egg. Instead, bring a pot of water to the temperature right before it begins to boil, place the egg in a bowl and pour the water over the egg until it is completely submerged. Let it sit for about three minutes, pour the water out and place the egg in cold water for about 20 minutes until the egg is completely cool. Keep your egg in a safe place away from others.
